Mark practises acupuncture and massage at the clinic.
He studied four years at the London College of Traditional Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine and has a degree in acupuncture from the University of Portsmouth. He began practising in south London in 2007. Mark subsequently studied two courses at the London College of Massage to qualify in therapeutic and deep tissue massage.
Mark also works in clinics in Greenwich and Battersea and in 2010 set up a low-cost clinic in a GP surgery in Denmark Hill with the aim of making acupuncture widely available to all sectors of the community, which is an aim still very close to his heart.
Alongside acupuncture, he practises a full range of techniques associated with traditional Chinese medicine, including cupping, moxibustion, gua sha, and traditional Chinese dietary therapy. He has a qualification in medical Qi Gong and will demonstrate simple postures for people to practise away from the clinic environment to maximise the benefit of their treatment.
In addition to his clinical practise, Mark has also taught human anatomy to undergraduate and diploma students at both of his old colleges. Anatomy modules are often viewed by students as one of the least appealing aspects of their studies, usually involving rote learning of multiple bones and bodily features and muscle actions. Mark took pride in making his anatomy classes as stimulating as possible and hoped he conveyed something of the fascinating nature of our physical bodies to the students.
As an acupuncturist of over twelve years’ experience, Mark has worked with patients presenting with a wide range of conditions, including chronic and acute pain, migraines, menstrual issues, insomnia, and digestive problems. He has a particular interest in working with people with mental-emotional issues, such as anxiety, stress, and depression.
As a massage practitioner, Mark likes to use a combination of deep tissue work, lighter strokes, and stretches to achieve maximum benefit for the client. Much of his massage work is with clients suffering from neck-and-shoulder tension and restriction, upper back tightness, lower back pain, or tight hamstrings/gluts/calves.
Prior to retraining as an acupuncturist and massage therapist, Mark worked in the wine trade and travelled extensively, falling in love with the varied Asian cultures he experienced. He first discovered acupuncture in his early twenties when it enabled him to recover from M.E.
Mark is a member of the British Acupuncture Council and the Federation of Holistic Therapists and is fully-insured for all the therapies that he practises.
